Damawi — Hot and Moist

Based on your answers, your likely predominant temperament is
Sanguine, known in Unani medicine as Damawi.

At a Glance

Unani type: Damawi

Qualities: Hot & Moist

Common tendencies: sociable, cheerful, energetic and responsive

General Balancing Principles

Cooling and moderately drying influences

Moderation in rich, heavy and excessively heating foods

Regular activity with adequate rest

Understanding Your Temperament

People with a predominantly Damawi temperament often have a well-developed or
moderately substantial build, with good muscular development and a naturally
warm constitution. The complexion may be fresh or ruddy, sometimes with a
noticeable reddish tone in the cheeks.

As Damawi temperament is associated with heat and moisture,
these qualities may be reflected in circulation, appetite, digestion, sleep,
energy levels and response to climate.

Mind and Personality

Damawi individuals are often sociable, cheerful, optimistic and expressive.
They may enjoy company, conversation and social activity, and can be naturally
warm and approachable in their dealings with others.

They may respond readily to new experiences and often bring enthusiasm and
energy to situations.

When these natural tendencies become excessive, enthusiasm may sometimes turn
into impulsiveness, overindulgence, distractibility or difficulty maintaining
moderation.

Digestion and Activity

Appetite and digestion are often relatively strong in people with a predominantly
Damawi temperament. They may naturally enjoy food and can tolerate a reasonably
varied diet when otherwise healthy.

Regular physical activity is generally helpful in maintaining balance, particularly
where there is a tendency towards heaviness, excess or reduced activity.

Sleep and Daily Rhythm

Rest and sleep often come relatively easily to Damawi individuals. They may have
a good capacity for sleep and recovery, particularly when their daily routine is
balanced.

Excessive sleep, inactivity or overindulgence may, however, contribute to a sense
of heaviness or sluggishness.

Maintaining Balance

In Unani medicine, balance is generally maintained by moderating qualities that
are already dominant.

As Damawi temperament is naturally hot and moist, a balanced
routine usually emphasises moderation, regular activity and appropriate cooling
and moderately drying influences.

General Dietary Guidance

The following foods are traditionally regarded as more suitable for a predominantly
hot and moist temperament when used appropriately as part of a balanced diet.

Fish and dairy:
white sea fish, yoghurt, sheep’s milk and cheese, and eggs.

Vegetables:
beetroot, courgette, lettuce, spinach, pumpkin, squash and cucumber.

Fruit:
oranges, green apples, prunes, pears, watermelon and apricots.

Grains and pulses:
barley and lentils.

Rich, heavy or very heating foods may be less suitable when taken excessively.
Moderation with large quantities of meat and strong spices may also be helpful
where there is already a tendency towards heat or fullness.

Understanding Your Result

This quiz provides an indication of your
predominant temperament.
Most people show characteristics associated with more than one temperament,
and factors such as age, lifestyle and current health can influence some of
the features you notice.
A full Unani temperament assessment considers a much broader lifelong pattern.

Headaches
“Hakim was very attentive to my case and put me on a treatment plan of detoxifying my body initially to make it more receptive to cupping at a later stage. Detox medicines were in the form of teas, tablets and leaves in varying strengths. I have started cupping also to relieve headaches and earache.”
